Cremilda Medina at the Festival des Cultures in Differdange, Luxembourg
Cremilda Medina brings the soul and culture of Cape Verde to the “Festival des Cultures” in Differdange, Luxembourg.
The Festival des Cultures takes place on May 17 and 18 at the Place du Marché in the city of Differdange in Luxembourg and will celebrate cultural diversity with music, family activities and cuisine.
Cremilda Medina will take the stage at the Festival des Cultures at 7:30 pm on Sunday, May 18, for the show that will close this year’s edition of the festival. Cremilda’s show promises to be more than just a musical performance, it will be a true encounter with the soul of Cape Verde.
Much more than a performer of morna and coladeira, Cremilda Medina is a voice that carries the stories, emotions and pride of the people of Cape Verde. Through her art, Cremilda has established herself as an ambassador of Cape Verdean culture, bringing the sounds, identity and memories of the islands to the world, with a deep respect for their roots and a genuine love for their people.
Cremilda Medina recently received two international awards in the United States, one from the city of Pawtucket in Rhode Island and one from the House of Representatives of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts for her contributions to Cape Verdean music and culture, recognizing her remarkable achievements, demonstrating her authenticity, talent and deep connection with her country.
Cremilda brings an intimate show to Differdange… “… I will be accompanied by two guitars and a percussion/drums, it will be a show where the audience will be invited to immerse themselves in a unique sensory experience, where the simplicity of the format gives space to the intensity of emotions…” reveals Cremilda.
Her delicate and powerful voice will tell stories of love, longing and resistance, universal feelings that are embodied in morna, an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
Her presence at the Festival des Cultures reinforces the importance of art as a bridge between cultures, and of music as an instrument for affirming identities in an increasingly globalised world. As Differdange is a city where a large and significant Cape Verdean and Portuguese community resides, this show has an inestimable emotional and identity value, since it will not be just another concert, but also a reunion with the origins, with the collective memory and with the warmth of the Portuguese-speaking cultures.
The festival is organised by the city of Differdange and last year celebrated its 30th anniversary.
