On December 19th, at 10 pm, Cuca Roseta will perform a unique and exclusive concert at Casino Estoril. The artist takes the stage at Lounge D to sing “Luz de Natal”. This is an unmissable concert with free entry.
On the other side of the Atlantic, every year there has long been a tradition of those who are the great voices of North American popular music joining their interpretation of Christmas classics to a group that includes classics such as Nat King Cole, Elvis Presley, Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra or Ella Fitzgerald. It has become such a strong tradition that jazz, pop, indie rock, country or hip-hop musicians never tire of proposing new approaches to a popular repertoire that everyone knows by heart and that immediately awakens the more deep-rooted memories of family time and real belief in a better world, driven by more humanistic values. In recent years alone, Johnny Cash, Bob Dylan, Christina Aguilera, Sufjan Stevens, Kylie Minogue, Tony Bennett and Michael Bublé have contributed to this increasingly varied and rich heritage of albums dedicated to the Christmas repertoire.
This tradition took a long time to reach this side, but with “Luz de Natal”, Cuca Roseta ends that wait and joins a club made up of the best of the best. Cuca Roseta dreamed and fantasized about this “Christmas Light” so much that he had no doubts about the songs he wanted to sing and how he wanted to sing them. Although he wanted to evoke the classic, “old” sound of his reference records (Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presley and, above all, Nat King Cole), this sound with strings, jazzy and charming tempo, ideal for the voice to present itself with the lightness and celebration that are the hallmark of this era, I wanted from the first moment to lend some modernity and exchange the English of these classics for Portuguese – to bring us closer to here (Portugal) and now.
Cuca Roseta wrote and realized that his lyrics fit seamlessly into instantly recognizable songs such as “Hark the Harold” (We’re Almost at Christmas), “Oh Holy Night”, “Jingle Bells” (It’s Christmas), “Deck The Hall” (The Big Day is Coming), “Silent Night” (Holy Night), “Oh Christmas Tree” or “Winter Wonderland” (Ring the Bell). But for those who can’t disconnect from the original lyrics, the fado singer also sings “White Christmas”, “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas”, “Silver Bells” or “I’ll Be Home for Christmas” in the original English. As well as themes from the more solemn Christmas repertoire, such as “Adestes Fideles”, “Gloria in Excelsis” (In Excelsis Deo) or the Hail Marys of Schubert and Gounod. All these themes create a wonderful musical diversity that is now presented in Lounge D at Casino Estoril.
“Christmas Light” is a wonderful show that aims to highlight what Christmas should trigger in each of us: thinking about who we are (individually and for others) and where we are going (alone and with others), making this reflection a party that is shared with everyone through music.
Cuca Roseta will perform on December 19th at Lounge D, as part of Casino Estoril’s Christmas concert program, which ends on the 27th with Bárbara Bandeira. With free entry, from 10 pm.
The program is as follows:
