Dakar2020 organization keeps Paulo Gonçalves in the race

The organization of the all-terrain Dakar Rally corrected the information about Paulo Gonçalves (Hero) withdrawing, putting the Portuguese back in the third stage in Neom, Saudi Arabia, despite the huge delay due to breakdown.

The Esposende rider was stopped 30 kilometers out of the 477 that made today’s special with his broken motorcycle engine, according to the organization’s official website at 6:30 am, indicating that the Portuguese driver “decided to give up”.

Three hours later, Amaury Sport Organization (ASO) corrected the information, indicating that Gonçalves was still trying to repair the damage while waiting for his team’s assistance truck to arrive.

At the start of today’s stage, the second part of a super marathon in which elite riders had only 10 minutes to repair their bikes in assist and without outside help, Paulo Gonçalves was ranked 14th, 13.10 minutes from the leader of the race, the British Sam Sunderland (KTM).

This is the 13th participation of the Portuguese pilot, who in 2015 finished in second position.
