It was last Thursday that the Contemporary Dance Company of Saint Petersburg, Russia, presented, finally and for the first time in Portugal, its show “Dancing in The Rain, Declaration of Love”, directed and choreographed by Rustam Nadyrshin.
It was to the sound of “The Greatest Showman”, that eight dancers full of charm and charisma, with a streak of rebellion, brought us a dance show, composed of various musical styles, ranging from ballet, contemporary, jazz, blues, swing to hip-hop, not forgetting Russian folklore.
There was no lack of romance or humor.
Divided into two parts, the show of about 2 hours, showed us the best of body expression, the technique at the highest level, to the sound of songs we all know, a medley by Michael Jackson “Smooth criminal”, “You are not Alone“, “Dangerous“, Justin Timberlake with “Can’t Stop The Feeling”, among many others.
They surprised us with their interpretation of “Outras Línguas” by Barbara Tinoco. There was romance, flowers were offered and even a teddy bear, thus making the delight of those who received them. A show that seems easy, where you can even play, but full of difficulty, full of technique, full of determination.
The “Rain” arrived in the second part of the show with “Supremacy” by Muse and revealed the sensuality, the charisma of the eight dancers, passing through a Hard Rock version of “Come Together” original by The Beatles, the Cue with “Burnin ”, The Muse with a rock version of “Feeling Good” and Sting with “Shape of My Heart”.
The interpretation of Alberto Caeiro’s poem “Agora que Sinto o Amor” was also surprising.
The show ended, perhaps of course, with the sound of James Brown with “Get Up Offa That Thing”, the audience thanked them with a standing ovation. The Rain and Dance created perfect visual images, irresistible to the eyes of those who watched and that brought everyone the desire to also dance in the rain.
A magnificent show, given its simplicity, it was really “A Declaration of Love”.
