“Dão Emotions” highlights endogenous products of the region to promote tourist offer
Dão Development Association promotes gastronomic workshop in Lisbon
On November 25th, the Ribeira Market (Time Out Market), in Lisbon, was the stage of an exclusive event, organized by the Dão Development Association (ADD), in collaboration with the local authorities of this territory.
In addition to a gastronomic workshop with Chef Henrique Ferreira, they also highlighted the diversity of unique tourism, gastronomy and agri-food experiences that Dão has to offer.
This initiative was carried out within the framework of the ADD’s “Dão Emoções” project, which aims to support local producers and structure a new tourist offer in the territory. Consequently, it will enable to qualify and promote the artisanal production of great quality and authenticity, add value to the tourist offer and contribute to the increase of the average stay of tourists in the Dão Region (Aguiar da Beira, Mangualde, Nelas, Penalva do Castelo and Sátão).
Francisco Lopes de Carvalho, Chairman of the ADD Board and of the City Council of Penalva do Castelo, underlines that “valuing national products, but in particular those from this region, is essential to preserve cultural identity and strengthen the local economy. Actions like this are a unique opportunity to highlight the excellence of endogenous products, which not only reflect the richness and authenticity of the localities but also their enormous potential to conquer wider markets. The “Dão Emoções” project is not limited to promoting local flavours, but rather celebrates the deep connection that exists between the territory, people and traditions, reinforcing the positioning of Dão as a destination that combines gastronomy, tourism and sustainability.”
Under this motto, the chef Henrique Ferreira, from Nelas, where he also has a restaurant, led the gastronomic workshop “Chef by Dão”. The guests had the opportunity to prepare and taste five signature dishes, whose protagonists were the region’s endogenous products, accompanied by the distinguished Dão wine. They gave rise to the Pastel de Massa Tenra with Serra da Estrela DOP cheese, the Creme de Castanha Soutos da Lapa DOP, the Pevide de Míscaros do Satão, the Mousse de Chocolate Branco and Dão Olive Oil and the Leite Creme de Maçã Bravo de Esmolfe DOP.
Rafael Feliciano, representing the State Secretary of Tourism, Francisco Lopes de Carvalho, Chairman of the ADD Board and the City Council of Penalva do Castelo, Alexandre Vaz, President of the City Council of Sátão, Margarida Ferreira, Councilor of the Municipality of Aguiar da Beira, Rui Costa, Councilor of the Municipality of Mangualde, Elsa Loureiro, Vice-President of the Municipality of Nelas, Rui Rafael, Technical Secretary of PEPAC, Luís Chaves, of the Federação Minha Terra, and Emanuel Ribeiro, LAG Coordinator at ADD.
