Darcos 2019 season premieres in Poland with concert of Artur Pizarro

The Darcos 2019 Season, organized from Torres Vedras, premiered with a concert in Poland by pianist Artur Pizarro and a Polish orchestra, travelling later to Russia and Spain, according to the program released today.

Three years after expanding from Torres Vedras to Lisbon, the 2019 program promises “an international season,” said the artistic director, Nuno Côrte-Real, for not only the participation of three foreign orchestras but also concerts in Poland, Russia and Spain.

The season premieres next Friday with a concert by the Portuguese pianist and the Polish orchestra Huberman Philharmonic, conducted by the composer Côrte-Real in Czestochowa, Poland.

Pizarro and the orchestra will play Rachmaninoff’s piano and orchestra No. 3 and Ravel’s “Ma Mère l’Oye” ballet suite, as well as a tribute to Ligeti by Nuno Côrte-Real.

The concert is repeated on February 2 at the Teatro-Cine de Torres Vedras and the next day at the Centro Cultural de Belém in Lisbon.

The season travels to Russia on April 9 and 10, where the Ensemble Darcos, directed by Côrte-Real, will interpret works by Schumann and the composition of Côrte-Real inspired by poems by Florbela Espanca, accompanied by an unpublished translation for Russian.

In addition to the Polish orchestra, the season invites this year the Symphony Orchestra of Castilla y León and the Symphony Orchestra of the Principality of Asturias, Spain.

The first gives a concert dedicated to Mozart in Torres Vedras and Lisbon, on July 19 and 20, respectively.

The second performs, accompanied by the pianist António Rosado, on October 18 in Oviedo (Spain), on October 26 at the Cultural and Congress Center in Caldas da Rainha, and a day later at the Centro Cultural de Belém in Lisbon, works by Côrte-Real, Falla, Halffter and Stravinsky.

Still, in April, the season joins the Days of Music, the Cultural Center of Belém, where Ensemble Darcos gives a concert on the 27th, with the participation of the soprano Ana Quintans, dedicated to the English composer Dowland.

In September it is the turn of the cellist Filipe Quaresma to interpret works by Bach, in Torres Vedras.

In the schedule of the season, are included releases of three albums of projects of Ensemble Darcos and of Nuno Côrte-Real.

On February 9th, “Lagarto Pintado” (“Painted Lizard”) was launched, a trip through the popular children’s songbook with the collaboration of the Luis António Maldonado Rodrigues Music School of Torres Vedras Physics.

On March 28, it is the turn of “Ahora Tudo Muda”, with songs by Cêr-Real with verses by the writer José Luís Peixoto, interpreted by the singer Maria João.

The album dedicated to cante alentejano is released the 24 of November.

The program includes concerts by the Orquestra Académica Metropolitana (26 May in Torres Vedras) and Ensemble Darcos (22 and 23 March, 18 May, 28 and 29 June and 22 November), in Torres Vedras and Lisbon. December 7, with a Christmas concert, with the participation of several composers, pianist Helder Marques and soprano Ana Paula Russo.
