Dave Matthews Band, a love story with the Portuguese public
MEO Arena
The Dave Matthews Band returned to Portugal, yesterday, Sunday, for the last concert of the Walk Around the Moon album tour, which ended in apotheosis, with an audience surrendered to the band, and a band surrendered to the Portuguese public.
The Dave Matthews Band, the American rock band formed in Charlottesville, Virginia, in 1991, is known for its live performances, intense and with several moments of improvisation and audience participation, returned to Portugal yesterday and did not disappoint, it won over the public that went to MEO Arena from the first chord, opened the concert with “So Right” and soon the audience couldn’t contain themselves, applauding the band and dancing, followed by “When the World Ends”, “Do You Remember” and “Madman’s Eyes.”

Dave Matthews wished everyone to have an excellent concert with each other, and remembered that in a topsy-turvy world with so many conflicts, in a world where some get rich while others go hungry, he felt very happy to be with everyone at this concert.
The band, which mixes rock, jazz, funk and world music, gave no rest to the many fans who came to see them and maintained the rhythm and energy throughout the concert.

Dave Matthews on vocals and guitar, featured Carter Beauford on drums, Stefan Lessard on bass, Jeff Coffin on saxophone and flute and Tim Reynolds on guitar and vocals, for the concert that marked the end of this tour.
On several occasions, Dave Matthews thanked the audience who were present in the Lisbon room. On his return to Portugal, he pointed out that, after the reception he had the last time when he started the tour here, he asked that the tour in Portuguese lands be ended this time, as the reception was so fantastic, and he said, that after having “caviar” made it difficult to get used to another type of roe, a compliment for which he received a huge ovation from an audience completely captivated by the singer.

The band has won numerous awards, including a Grammy for Best Rock Vocal Performance by a Duo or Group for “So Much to Say” in 1996. In 2024, they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
The band has released nine studio albums, all of which have reached the top 10 of the Billboard 200 chart. Their most commercially successful album is Before These Crowded Streets, which has sold more than 10 million copies in the United States.

Some of their most popular songs are “The Space Between”, “Crash Into Me”, “Satellite”, “Ants Marching” and “Everyday” of which only the last two were part of yesterday’s lineup, which was broadcast live via streaming, free.
Dave Matthews took a lineup of 19 songs to MEO Arena, featuring some of his best-known songs and his latest work, Walk Around the Moon, with moments of beautiful and captivating improvisations, with drum solos, trumpet, saxophone, synthesizers and guitar, which drove fans crazy.

Before saying goodbye, the band left the fantastic song “Why I Am” on stage, and the anthems “Everyday” and “Ants Marching”, but the fans wanted more and for several minutes, they didn’t leave the room, asking for more, while they sang and called for the band to come back.
Dave, did their bidding, came back alone, with his guitar and gave the audience “Dreamgirl” and “Rye Whiskey”, and to end this concert and tour, with the signature of Everything is New, he sang “The Last Stop” with everyone already on stage, a song that hasn’t been played very often and, reportedly, hasn’t been sung in full at concerts since 2018, but which delighted all fans and closed the Meo Arena concert with a bang.
