The demand for school supplies fell 15% in Portugal in 2020 compared to 2019, accentuated by the uncertainty that is being experienced in the return to face-to-face classes, with backpacks (-40%) and notebooks and notepads (-57%) were the products that recorded the greatest decline, informs KuantoKusta (KK), the largest national platform for price comparison.
According to the KK analysis, this regression is due to the late start of the school year and mainly to the fact that many households have only received this week the list of material they should buy for their children.
Derived from this fact, the company foresees a new period for the peak of the demand, that should happen already next week, something that, before the pandemic effect, happened in the end of the months of August.
This exceptional stance is also reflected in the advertising campaigns, in which the platform has delayed some promotional campaigns, usually carried out in the last weeks of August, by some stores present in KK and in the major food retail operators.
