One of the best violinists in the world returns to the Portuguese stage, alongside a very talented singer, who comes directly from London. The presentations will be on the 30th and 31st of October, in Porto and Braga, respectively, and on the 3rd of November, in Lisbon
A meeting of talents. That’s what happened when Diego Figueiredo and Celeste Caramanna decided to make music together. The Brazilian is recognized as one of the greatest guitarists in the world. Celeste, with the power and smoothness that seem antagonistic but are not, is a young singer who wins admirers wherever she goes. The artists meet again at Womex (from 27th to 31st in Porto) and take the opportunity to share the stage in relaxed presentations they call open rehearsals, at Letraria do Porto, on October 30th, and at Letraria de Braga, at day 31. On November 3rd, the duo will be at Som no Coreto, in Lisbon.
Awarded twice as one of the best guitarists in the world by the Montreux Festival and nominated for the 2020 Grammy, Diego has more than 20 albums and has played with names such as Gilberto Gil, Renato Teixeira, Carlinhos Brown, Geraldo Azevedo, Osvaldo Montenegro, Kenny G, Larry Corryel, John Hart, Terrel Stafford, John Clayton and Cyrille Aimée, among many others, in addition to having famous fans such as George Benson and Pat Metheny.
The artist is excited to return to Portugal, where he has performed several times in different cities.
“I have a very strong connection with Portugal since 2006 when I did my first tour. I passed through Lisbon, Porto, Braga, Vila Real and Bragança, in Douro jazz. I was also in Chaves, Régua, Portalegre and Figueira da Foz. I remember the concerts I played very well. I’m very happy to be able to come back to participate in Womex and do these shows”, says Diego, who has 27 albums in his career – the last one, Antarctica, with great success on American radio.
Celeste Caramanna traveled the world with her beautiful voice: Italy, Brazil, France, Belgium, Ireland, Holland, Portugal and Great Britain. An admirer of Brazilian music, the Italian performed the first part of concerts by Milton Nascimento, Nando Reis and Martinho da Vila throughout Europe.
“I love singing and being on stage. In fact that’s what I would like to do every minute if it were possible. Every time I sing and go on stage it’s different from any other, I never get the same feeling twice,” she says.
Celeste and Diego met at a presentation they gave together in London, in 2019, with bossa nova icon Roberto Menescal. From then on, they started to think about other projects together.
