As is already a tradition in August, the Orquestra Clássica do Sul performs a summer concert in Quarteira to accompany a national musician. On the 13th, at 10 pm, Dino D’Santiago goes up to the Passeio das Dunas Stage for (another) unforgettable show in his homeland.
After the great success obtained in the previous year, with a full space and an audience outside the venue, the musician joins this Orchestra once again, in a concert in which the fusion of sounds and musical styles find, resulting in a unique work of great artistic quality and unquestionable musical celebration.
Creator, musician, composer, cartoonist, and activist for the arts and cultures of the World, Dino D’Santiago was born on December 13, 1982, in Quarteira, to a Cape Verdean family (his parents are from Santiago Island).
Over the years of his career, he wandered through the spaces of globalized urban music through various adventures such as Soul, R&B, and Hip-Hop, but it was mainly in the last decade, with the release of the album “Eva” (2013), after a journey to Cape Verde in a reunion with his roots, that his career took new paths.
He is today a voice of the world and of the mix. It works the Cape Verdean tradition with the contemporary weight of global electronics, as evidenced by the anthem “Kriolu”, with the collaboration of Julinho KSD and production by Branko. He has already stepped on stages such as Super Bock Super Rock (Sesimbra), NOS Primavera Sound (Porto), MED (Loulé), and FMM (Sines), among many others. Alongside Branko, he starred in a unique moment on Avenida da Liberdade to mark the 25th of April, in the midst of a pandemic, when the country was in confinement.
In 2020, Dino D’Santiago released the album “Kriola”, considered one of the best works of that year by media such as Público, Time Out, Blitz, and Correio da Manhã, also received the most praised reviews from American and Brazilian media, such as from Rolling Stone, from Complex and from Folha de S. Paulo. He also received the Play Awards for Best Album, Best Male Artist, and Critics Award.
At the end of 2021, he released his latest album, “Badiu”, featuring artists such as Branko and Slow J, among others. The new album, which includes “Lokura” and “Esquinas”, was also highlighted as one of the best albums of 2021 by various means.
Ambassador of Cape Verdean music, Dino D’Santiago is one of the main faces of the “Lisboa Criola” cultural movement and, without a doubt, an unavoidable name in current Portuguese music.
He is one of the mentors of the sociocultural movement “Sou Quarteira” and has been an inspiration to the young people of this city.
In this concert alongside Dino D’Santiago, the Orquestra Clássica do Sul will be conducted by Maestro Titular Rui Pinheiro.
