Dino Parque prepares Environment Week with activities dedicated to ecology
Between the 21st and 27th of March, Dino Parque da Lourinhã will organize the Environment Week, a themed week with activities dedicated to education and ecological awareness dedicated to the whole family, but in particular to children. As the generation responsible for conserving the planet, children will be special guests and, up to 12 years old, have free admission throughout the weekend.
The program, guided by the theme of sustainability, will address a different subject each day, and provides a set of activities aimed at the school community and the population in general. The organization relies on the collaboration of local and regional partners.
Opening the first day, March 21, the theme “Forests” will celebrate World Tree Day with the offer of trees to plant in Dino Parque, in partnership with The Navigator Company. The day will also feature a guided tour on sustainability for school groups, as well as a workshop dedicated to the theme “Planting and Sowing”.
Guided tours during Environment Week and the workshop on the 21st will be subject to registration and limited to the first 30 participants.
March 22, World Water Day, makes this fundamental resource the protagonist. For schools, Dino Parque has planned a guided tour and a set of games about the water cycle and biodiversity. In addition, the company Docapesca will visit the park with an action to raise awareness of the sustainable consumption of fish – seeking to make the little ones aware of the process of getting the fish to the plate. The 22nd will also feature an awareness-raising action by SPEA (Portuguese Society for the Study of Birds) on the conservation of birds.
On March 23, World Meteorology Day, the program will be dedicated to climate change. In addition to offering a special guided tour, Dino Parque has prepared the game “Climate in Change”, which aims to raise awareness of one of the most relevant themes of our time.
On March 24, the program will focus on the theme “Waste” through the game “Recycle and Reduce”.
The 25th of March will be themed “Seas and Oceans”, also with a game and the offer of a guided tour. This day will also mark the inauguration of the exhibition “Waste on Display – Prehistoric Art”, which will bring together sculptures of prehistoric animals created by students from schools in the municipality of Lourinhã using only recyclable materials.
The weekend will be dedicated to Biodiversity and Sustainability in general, seeking to aggregate all the topics covered during the week. For this purpose, Dino Parque brought together a group of speakers who will raise awareness of the theme from their different areas of activity.
On Saturday (March 26) João Correia, from Flying Sharks, will be present, a company that promotes the sustainable exploration of the oceans through consulting and transport of marine animals to institutions focused on research on the environment. Chef Patrícia Borges, teacher and owner of the catering company Sea Lovers, will also be present, with a showcooking that will be based on sustainable fishing and locally sourced products. The afternoon will be in charge of Nuno Vasco Rodrigues (marine biologist and conservation photographer) and Lurdes Morais (representative of the ICNF’s “Life Berlengas” project).
Closing the Dino Parque Environment Week, the morning of Sunday (March 27) will be attended by Simão Quintans, representing Lourambi – Association for the Defense of the Environment of the Municipality of Lourinhã, and Nuno Pimentel, scientific coordinator of the Aspiring Geopark West.
