Nominees for the 5th edition of PLAY – Portuguese Music Awards, an initiative by Audiogest and GDA, whose objective is to recognize the merit of the work of Portuguese artists.
Diogo Piçarra is nominated for the Vodafone Song of the Year award with “Sorriso”, the theme that is already a gold single and that will be part of his next album of originals. The song was one of the highlights of Diogo’s debut concert at the Altice Arena, in October last year. With Diogo Piçarra, Sara Correia also competes in the category of Song of the Year with “Quero É Viver”, the version by António Variações revisited for the opening credits of the TVI soap opera of the same name, as well as “saudade, saudade” by MARO, a song which won the 2022 Song Festival and ranked 7th in Eurovision.
Carlão is nominated twice, in the categories of Vodafone Song of the Year, with “A Maior Traição”, a song produced by Pedro da Linha, and Best Male Artist.
Also in the category of Best Male Artist competes the artist T-Rex, who has just released his first studio album, the acclaimed “Cor D’Água”, and which only this year sold out Coliseu dos Recreios and Coliseu do Porto Ageas.
Calema, one of the biggest phenomena in Portuguese-speaking music, are also nominated for the Best Group award. On March 31st, the duo will release their first “Best Of”, before performing on April 14th and 15th at Sagres Campo Pequeno and Super Bock Arena, respectively.
Dulce Pontes, who surprised everyone and everything at last year’s PLAY awards ceremony by performing alongside Moonspell, is nominated this year for the Best Fado Album award with “Perfil” (Universal Music Portugal/Decca Records). Dulce Pontes performed in the role of singer, songwriter, poet and producer, in the album that represents one of her most personal projects.
Batida’s collaboration with singer Mayra Andrade earned them a nomination for the Lusofonia Award.
The young singer Milhanas, who at the Festival da Canção 2022 performed the theme “Corpo de Mulher”, by Agir, is nominated in the category of Breakthrough Artist.
The partnership between rappers X-Tense and Slow J on the song “CARO” earned them a nomination for the Best Videoclip award.
The delivery of the PLAY – Portuguese Music Awards will take place on April 20, at Coliseu dos Recreios, and the ceremony will be broadcast on RTP.
