Discovered diamond with 128 carats in Angolan mine

A 128-carat diamond was found at a mine in Lulo, northeast Angola, the 12th time is a stone recovered in excess of 100 carats in that region, according to a statement from the Australian company Lucapa Diamond Company.

The Lulo mine, part of the Lucapa mining complex in Lunda Norte, operated in partnership with the National Diamond Company (Endiama) of Angola, has been “prolific” in the “special stones” (above 10.8 carats), writes the Australian company, noting that it has found at the same time another gem, pink, of 7.5 carats.

Lucapa Diamonds, which does not advance the date they were found, recalls that the two stones were recovered days after Angola held an auction of high-quality diamonds from the same mine at the end of January, yielding 16, ($ 14.5 million), earning an “exceptional price” of $ 33.53 per carat.

The seven diamonds – of 114.94, 85.24, 75.62, 70.08, 62.05, 46.17 and 43.25 carats – all come from the Sociedade Mineira do Lulo, in the province of Lunda Norte, which appears to have great potential for new special stones.
