“sunday afternoon” marks the debut of MANILA

Inspired by the nostalgic spirit of Portuguese music, with influences from Soul, R&B and Jazz, MANILA introduced themselves to the world with “sunday afternoon”, their debut single which precedes the release of their first EP, with a release date to be announced shortly.

Sound storytellers, MANILA, a new emerging name in national production, want to make the public travel with their music through the groove, floating between themes that touch on existentialism, love, loneliness and the infinite dichotomies of life.

A case of this same intention is this debut single, “sunday afternoon”. The theme dives headlong into a moment of solitude and introspection: the famous ‘sunday scaries’ and explores the contrast between light and darkness that characterize our lives, in ambivalent energy that combines several musical genres, characteristic of the band formed by Gerard Torres (keys), Ricardo Pedrosa (bass), Carmo Braga da Costa (vocals), João Serra (guitar) and Zé Lobo da Costa (drums).

The different backgrounds and inspirations of each member come together in an eclectic song full of melodies that stick in your head, presenting an original proposal of Portuguese indie pop. With a feeling of resignation and acceptance towards the complexities of existence, the groove of “sunday afternoon” explores the melancholy that consumes us, but also lulls us. Inner peace? Only after a good beating of tribulations.

“sunday afternoon” and the lyric video that accompanies it are now available on digital platforms. The track was produced, recorded and mixed by João Sampayo at Bairro Up Studios, and mastered by Miguel Sá Pessoa.
