Domingos Gonçalves wins the 6th stage of the Volta a Portugal and Alarcón follows in yellow

Portugal’s Domingos Gonçalves (Popular-Boavista Radio) today beat the sixth stage of the Volta a Portugal by bicycle, between Sernancelhe and Boticas, in the distance of 165.4 kilometers, while Spaniard Raul Alarcón (W52-FC Porto) kept the lead .

The national champion stood out from the group of favorites after climbing to Torneiros (1st category), located less than 20 kilometers from the finish line, to finish the stage at 4:09 p.m., with a 19 second advantage over the minipelot headed by the Norwegian Krister Hagen (Team Coop) and the Portuguese Daniel Mestre (Efapel).

Alarcón, who seeks to repeat the victory achieved in the 2017 edition, joined the group and kept the yellow jersey, 52 seconds ahead of Jóni Brandão (Sporting-Tavira) and 1.41 minutes against the Spanish Vicente García de Mateos (Aviludo- Louletano).

On Thursday, the seventh stage, with 165.5 kilometers, will link Montalegre to the Sanctuary of Santa Luzia, in Viana do Castelo, where the goal coincides with a third category mountain count.
