The Intermunicipal Community of Douro (CIM Douro) will advance with a tourism signage project and a marketing plan to design the territory, with an investment of around three million euros included in the Provere program.
The Provere (Economic Recovery Program for Endogenous Resources) will channel 11.8 million euros to the Douro and includes the realization of 24 shares.
Among the projects are tourism signage and a marketing plan considered as “anchor for the tourism development of the Douro”.
The protocols relating to these two projects were signed today at Peso da Régua, in a ceremony presided over by the Minister of Economy, Manuel Caldeira Cabral.
The tourist signage of the Douro has the objective of updating the existing signaling plan and the installation of road signage guidance, representing an investment of around 1.9 million euros.
Nuno Gonçalves, vice-president of CIM Douro and the Câmara de Torre de Moncorvo, highlighted the project that will allow to put a “congruent and equal signage in the 19 municipalities” that are part of this intermunicipal community.
“A uniform signage that allows us to know when we enter or leave the Douro and not treat the Douro as subregions,” he said.
The territorial marketing project mobilizes an investment of 988 thousand euros.
For Nuno Gonçalves, this plan aims to “promote the Douro brand”.
The plan wants to “make known the best of this region and standardize this promotion inside and outside Portugal,” said the mayor.
The Provere for the Douro was heavily criticized at the local level, with local authorities complaining that the value “fell far short of expectations”.
“It was the possible Provere, not the one that the municipalities defended … but now that they will take advantage of the region,” said Nuno Gonçalves.
