The prestigious Arimbo track, which is already a national reference, in the heart of Serra do Caldeirão, receives this Sunday, September 6, the first stage of the 2020 Downhill Cup of Portugal, in an event totally adapted to the context of a pandemic.
The most important national competition in this modality, and internationally recognized, also marks the resumption of the county’s sports calendar since the arrival of the pandemic caused by COVID19 to the national territory.
A wide range of national athletes, joined by some English and Spanish official teams, are present in this competition that tests the expertise of its participants and that does the wonders of the fans of the sport.
In this edition, athletes will compete in 8 categories and in the classification of teams. The qualifying events are scheduled for 11 am and the final will be played from 2 pm.
The scenery and conditions offered by the territory of São Paulo, close to the sea and with open doors to Serra do Caldeirão, are conducive to the practice of downhill and annually attract hundreds of athletes who have returned to pre-season stages, with a view to a better preparation for international championships.
Committed to promoting sports in the municipality of São Brás de Alportel, both in amateur practice and in the competitive area and aware of the importance of sports tourism, the Municipality of São Brás de Alportel once organized this event in collaboration with the XDream association and the Portuguese Federation Cycling.
Taking into account the current pandemic context, the organization adapted the entire structure of the event and the reception of athletes and the public to ensure full compliance with public health and safety rules, in accordance with recommendations from national health authorities.
