DreamShaper, an online Project Based Learning platform, raises 2M€ to accelerate its European expansion.

Social-emotional skills have never been more important in the labour market today, and companies are beginning to demand that schools develop those skills in their students. The educational system is not only being forced to adapt itself to these demands but also to find new ways to motivate and engage students. Through a Project Based Learning (PBL) approach, DreamShaper supports schools and teachers to implement and improve their active teaching methods that engage students and promote the development of social-emotional and work-related skills.

Founded by 3 Portuguese entrepreneurs, the DreamShaper platform was built in Portugal and launched into the Brazilian education market in 2015, where the company grew to 700k€ in yearly revenue. In 2018, DreamShaper started looking into the European market, closing its first Portuguese schools and universities and looking to the rest of the EU for further growth. After a first meeting at Web Summit 2018 in Lisbon and a year-long relationship, DreamShaper has just closed a 2M€ Series A investment round with Portuguese VC fund Alpac Capital to consolidate its presence in Brazil and accelerate its European expansion. Using the DreamShaper online platform, teachers guide students in building projects related to their subject matter using PBL techniques. “The platform is designed for students to go through a set of steps and challenges that, with the support of pedagogical resources, give them autonomy and motivation to work on their projects, in collaboration with their colleagues.

On the other hand, it encourages teachers to guide and give feedback to their students work” explains João Borges, co-Founder and CEO of DreamShaper. Students experience increased motivation, improved learning outcomes, and develop a set of skills – such as critical thinking, creativity, communication, argumentation, collaboration, among others – in alignment with new educational guidelines coming up around the globe.

DreamShaper has already impacted over 150.000 students and aims to support schools and teachers in implementing Active Learning methodologies, such as Project Based Learning, that lead to more successful students, not only academically but also in their personal and professional lives.
