GetOn has just been launched in Portugal by dstelecom as the first telecommunications store that will allow users to subscribe exclusively online to fiber optic services marketed by several national operators, the company announced today.
With an investment of half a million euros, GetOn will start by operating in areas of low population density, with the greater purpose of contributing to the promotion of telecommunication services supported exclusively by optical fiber.
“This marketplace will promote and enhance access to broadband services and allow populations in sparsely populated areas to have the same quality of service and diversity of offer as populations residing in urban areas, thus contributing to the reduction of asymmetries. regional and social equality, preventing the rural exodus and even supporting the attraction of investment and people to these territories”, guarantees Ricardo Salgado, ceo of dstelecom.
GetOn is prepared to extend its scope of action to the entire country by being able to integrate infrastructures from other operators, as well as different offers.
The pioneering concept of this telecommunications marketplace, which integrates service offers from various operators supported by different infrastructures and where the subscription process is simple and intuitive for the user, has, according to the company, aroused the interest of international operators, with contacts to study the possibility of extending the platform to other geographies.
On a single platform, it is now possible, at no cost to the user, to check the fiber network coverage at their address, consult packages from various operators, subscribe online to the service that suits them best and, also, consult the status of requests In real time.
“The advantages are immense, from the sustainability that an online store brings, with effective cost reduction and the ability to go further, to the convenience for the user of being able to have access to commercial packages from several operators simultaneously, on a single platform, without get out of the house.”, says the same official.
Despite being an online platform, GetOn is prepared to respond to requests for help and clarification of doubts throughout the membership process.
“We are aware that the areas where GetOn will operate, for the time being, have a large percentage of the info-excluded population and, precisely for this reason, we do not want to fail to respond to their needs. We have prepared a customer support team that, via telephone, will provide the necessary follow-up to all those who need it”, he reinforces.
GetOn, informs dstelecom, is a project that emerged from a need identified in the market in the context of the Covid-19 pandemic, thus facilitating the process of joining fiber services.
“We found that there was a large displacement of people to the interior of the country and even to more remote places during the pandemic, which forced a greater demand for broadband services”, emphasizes Ricardo Salgado.
It should be remembered that dstelecom already guarantees a network infrastructure that covers more than 550 thousand families in Portugal, spread over more than a third of the national territory. By the end of this year the company expects to reach families in 130 municipalities.
It should be noted that dstelecom is a wholesale telecommunications operator responsible for building and managing the first and largest multi-operator FTTH fiber optic network in Europe, available to all telecommunications operators.
