dte involved in the construction of the world’s first hemp ecoblock factory

The revolutionary project will be ready this summer and represents an investment of almost €800 thousand

dte, a dstgroup company specializing in special facilities, announced today that it is involved in the construction of the world’s first factory to process hemp (dividing the plant into different raw materials) and produce hemp blocks, with a global investment of almost 800 thousand euros, and which will be located in Ourique, in the Alentejo.

The new unit will revolutionize the construction sector in Portugal and worldwide. Hemp ECOblocks, made from 100% natural materials, significantly reduce the carbon footprint in the construction of modern infrastructures.

ECOblocks will enable more sustainable construction, given that hemp absorbs large amounts of CO₂ during its cultivation, and the resulting blocks have properties that contribute to the energy efficiency of buildings. Furthermore, due to their components, ECOblocks are a construction material that does not generate waste on site, using a highly energy-efficient material that combines masonry and insulation in a single product.

dte will be responsible for supplying, transporting and assembling materials and equipment related to electrical and HVAC installations, which will therefore support a modern infrastructure aligned with sustainability and industrial innovation principles.

“This project is yet another example of our commitment to excellence in engineering and industrial infrastructure. The Cânhamor Industrial Unit will contribute to the economic and technological development of the region, and dte is committed to ensuring that its construction takes place with the highest standards of quality and efficiency. With this project, we reaffirm our position as a reference partner in large-scale projects, betting on innovation and sustainability to drive the industry of the future”, highlights Ricardo Carvalho, CEO of dte.

The main advantage of using ECOblocks is to ensure greater energy efficiency in buildings, due to their high thermal performance, significantly reducing energy consumption in air conditioning and improving thermal comfort and indoor air quality.

Hemp cultivation is known for its ability to capture large amounts of carbon dioxide (CO₂) during growth, actively contributing to the decarbonization of the atmosphere.

Installed on a 57,476 m2 plot of land, provided by the City of Ourique, the new manufacturing unit will begin operations this summer and will boost the local economy by creating dozens of jobs.
