KiMiKus is the new jazz project that combines the resonant sounds of Prof. Mikelius (Miguel Ângelo), with vocals by the enigmatic Dr. K (Kiko Pereira).
They present their debut album Modus Novos and a tour, in a showcase format, that will visit several cities in the country, starting on the day of the album’s release, May 2nd, at 6:30 pm, at Casa Comum da Reitoria, in Porto.
With their musical interactions and innovative approach, KiMiKus is subverting the limits of contemporary jazz, drawing inspiration from diverse musical influences. The compositions are an intriguing fusion of classic jazz elements, infused with contemporary textures, experimental indie, pop and spoken word.
Michelangelo’s mastery of the double bass is inspiring. With his intricate melodies, deep bass lines and extraordinary improvisation skills, he weaves a musical matrix that forms the backbone of every KiMiKus performance. His artistry adds depth and complexity to the duo’s sound, captivating audiences with each nuanced note.
Complementing Miguel’s instrumental prowess is Kiko Pereira’s velvety voice. Possessing a remarkable vocal range and commanding stage presence, Kiko effortlessly conveys the deep emotions embedded in his lyrics that explore the complexities of life, the passage of time and the small stories of everyday life, offering a unique perspective that invites introspection.
The duo presents their debut album Modus Novos, which promises to be a sublime collection of poetic compositions, illustrated with a mini story in the form of a comic strip created with photos by Anabela Trindade and drawings by Yasmin Machado.
