Duques do Precariado release “Falho”
and announce shows in Lisbon and Porto
The Dukes of the Precariado will release the single “Falho” on November 14th, the first preview of their new album Encarnação, scheduled for release in January. The song anticipates the band’s shows on December 18th at BOTA (Lisbon) and on December 19th at Maus Hábitos (Porto).
“Falho” only has one chord. It’s played in C major and therefore accessible to those already familiar with the guitar—but, paradoxically, only those truly familiar with it know how to play it. It retells an old story, presented in the form of a riddle, and belongs to Encarnação, the Duques do Precariado’s second album.
Recorded without a metronome and in a single take, “Falho” brings together Pedro Mendonça (Ukulele, Vocals), João Neves (Guitar, Vocals) and João Fragoso (Bass, Vocals), and also features Teresa Costa on flute, Hugo Oliveira on bagpipes and Zé Stark on drums. A simple, imperfect and whole song — like a portrait of the band’s own trajectory.
Os Duques do Precariado were born in Lisbon in 2014, when Pedro Mendonça showed Fragoso the songs he had “in the trash”. After many conversations and some recordings in a basement in Graça, they made themselves known on May 1st, 2017, with the song “Vou Considerar”, produced with Bernardo Fachada. In 2018, they released their first album, Antropocenas, a set of seven songs that look at collapse head-on, with irony and tenderness.
Re-released in 2023 by Lux Records, Antropocenas brought the Duques back to the stage and paved the way for their new work. With João Neves now involved in the arrangement of the songs, they record again with Hugo Oliveira, Zé Stark, and with the special participation of Teresa Costa, thus giving birth to Encarnação.
