After the Popular Marches – that took around 20,700 people to the MEO Arena over the weekend –, the Lisbon Festivities continue this week with an agenda full of unmissable proposals.
At the Lisbon Museum-Palácio Pimenta, from Friday (7th), you can see the new exhibition Smells good, and smells like Lisbon. An exhibition that comes from Afonso Oliveira’s private collection, covering the more than 150 years of perfumery history in Lisbon, from the first factory – Thomas Mendonça e Filhos, installed in 1850 on Calçada do Combro – to the present day. On Saturday, between 10 am and 6 pm, the palace opens its gardens to the Korean Culture Festival with traditional dance and music shows, workshops, gastronomy and much more.
Across the street, at the Bordalo Pinheiro Museum, the tradition of jumping over the bonfire during the Popular Saints festivities that inspired Bordalo to caricature some politicians is the theme for a visit-conversation about human rights, on Sunday, starting at 3 pm.
This weekend, Lisbon becomes even more colourful with the traditional Tronos de Santo António, which are set up for the festivities in the streets and squares of the city’s neighbourhoods.
The Trezena de Santo António continues, between the Museum, the Largo and the Church of Santo António, this week with guitarists José Manuel Neto and Ivan Cardoso, the group Collective Musicorum, Orquestra Geração and Ciclo de Órgão, with soprano Raquel Alão accompanied by Sérgio Silva (on organ).
On the 5th, at 6:30 pm, the Fado Museum will be the stage for a conversation with Armando Nascimento Rosa and Ricardo Belo de Morais, whose starting point is Pessoa’s texts on Fado.
Music is always present in the Festival program and there is no shortage of suggestions. Largo do Picadeiro hosts three more concerts from the Picadeiro Jazz cycle: Bill McHenry, Michael Formanek and Jeff Williams (from the USA), three musicians who come together for the first time on stage (5th); the duo Borage (UK), which presents fractured, challenging and vibrant music (the 6th); and the Portuguese project Garfo – Revelation Group of the Year 2021 at the RTP/Festa do Jazz Awards – which presents its second album (7th). At Teatro do Bairro Alto, the group HHY & The Macumbas presents the new album Bom Sangue Mau.
