easyJet and UNICEF launch 50th On-board Fundraiser to raise funds for life-changing education programs

  • The flagship campaign by easyJet and UNICEF “All children can fly” supports UNICEF’s goal of achieving the universal right of every child to have access to education by 2030.
  • Some 9 million customers flying with easyJet on more than 72,000 flights this winter will have the opportunity to help raise vital funds for education programmes through donations on board.
  • This is the airline’s 50th on-board collection for UNICEF, which has raised over £17 million since the launch of the partnership in 2012.

Starting on Saturday, 7 December, around 9 million customers flying with easyJet this winter will have the opportunity to make donations through cabin crew pickups on more than 72,000 flights across 32 countries.

This latest on-board collection, lasting six weeks, marks the 50th anniversary of UNICEF’s support since the partnership began in 2012. Since then, easyJet customers and staff have raised more than £17 million for UNICEF’s transformative work that has helped protect millions of children around the world from disease, to keep them safe during emergencies and to ensure access to quality education.

Launched earlier this year, easyJet and UNICEF’s “All Children Can Fly” campaign aims to support children and adolescents in shaping their future by contributing to UNICEF’s goal of providing learning opportunities for 114 million children and digital education for 148,6 million children worldwide by the end of 2025.

Globally, seven out of ten 10-year-olds cannot read a simple text or perform basic mathematical operations. Despite significant progress in increasing access to inclusive and quality education, 1.4 million children still need to be enrolled in pre-primary education every year and 44 million teachers to achieve the 4* Sustainable Development Goal for education.

Among these children is Khadija from Afghanistan, who attends school thanks to a UNICEF-run community classroom in her village of Daikundi. Khadija stated: “If my colleagues do not understand the lesson, I help them” and added: “I read them the lessons again.”

Michael Brown, easyJet’s Director of Cabin Services, said:

“It is a privilege to launch our 50th on-board collection campaign for UNICEF this winter as part of our “All Children Can Fly” initiative, in support of UNICEF’s goal to ensure the universal right of every child to learn by 2030.

“Since the beginning of our partnership over a decade ago, we are deeply grateful to our customers for their generosity and kindness in helping raise more than £17 million to support UNICEF’s work – and of course our fantastic crew, that makes these collections possible. We don’t have enough words to thank them for everything they do to help change the lives of countless children around the world.”

Luísa Motta, Director of Fundraising and Partnerships at UNICEF Portugal, said:

“This winter we are particularly pleased to launch the 50th fundraising action with easyJet. Contributions from easyJet crew members and airline passengers have already helped UNICEF reach more than 169 million children around the world to help them build a better future.

With this fundraising partnership, we have already raised more than £3 million – or more than €3.5 million – to support UNICEF’s Education programmes, to help all children have a fair chance of access to quality and inclusive education. This support translates into teaching materials, such as school textbooks and School Kits, so they can continue to learn even during emergency situations.”
