Égide presents “Fulgor – and if courage had a gesture, what would it be?”

June 1st in Alcochete, June 2nd in Lisbon and June 16th in Oeiras

The real accounts of the memories of the post-1974 revolution are the motto for this choreographic work inspired by Raquel Varela’s texts.

Égide – Associação Portuguesa das Artes presents, in June, the dance show “Fulgor – And if courage had a gesture, what would it be?” which artistically explores the impetus for collective freedom, as well as the collective transformations carried out by residents’ committees after the April Revolution.

“Fulgor – And if courage had a gesture, what would it be?” will be on stage on June 1st, at 9:30 pm, at the Alcochete Cultural Forum, part of the Tejo Festival; on June 2nd, at 6:00 pm, at Teatro do Bairro, in Lisbon; and on June 16th, at 6:00 pm at the Headquarters of the Portuguese Chamber Orchestra, in Oeiras. The show features choreography and artistic direction by Teresa Simas and original music written by composer Filipe Raposo.

The choreographic work revitalizes stories of people who, driven by their convictions, contributed to a more just and egalitarian society, highlighting the importance of art as a transformative agent of the social and political fabric.

The artistic body is made up of 13 performers, co-creators of this show, who represent the diversity of voices transcribed in the texts of historian and author Raquel Varela, also a university professor and researcher at the History, Territories and Communities research centre at NOVA FSH.

The stories in Raquel Varela’s works, which inspired this piece, refer to post-revolution memories. However, what was experienced before the April Revolution, the suffering of the PIDE prisoners and the men who were sent overseas is a constant dimension in this choreographic work.

The shows are free to enter, subject to room capacity. This show has the support of the Portuguese Chamber Orchestra.
