El Regalo de Zeus a fun comedy at the Capitólio

The comedy “El Regalo de Zeus” (“The Gift of Zeus”) took to the stage at the Capitólio, part of the International Festival of Classical Theatre of Mérida, produced by the company La Estampa.

“You to Mars and I to Olympus” is the motto of the play “The Gift of Zeus,” written and directed by Concha Rodriguez, featuring great names of Spanish theatre, such as Emma Ozores and Juan Meseguer. This is a comedy that tells the story of Deucalion and Pyrrha, two young lovers with well-laid plans. Deucalion, the conqueror, dreams of going to Mars, speculating about that distant planet and, if possible, returning as a hero. Pyrrha, the explorer, dreams of finding the philosopher’s stone of hope and living in peace on Mother Earth. Thus, this young couple, with the crazy help of the comic Thalia, travels to Olympus and seduces Zeus himself, so that he gives them Pandora’s box, the secret to see their dreams come true.

The comedy features circus and dance numbers, “The Gift of Zeus,” produced by the company La Estampa, is a light and fun show for the whole family, included in the Mostra Espanha 2024, but without subtitles, and in Spanish, which drove away some audiences. It premiered at the 69th edition of the International Festival of Classical Theatre of Mérida received support from the Embassy of Spain in Portugal and the Instituto Cervantes of Lisbon and was produced by EGEAC.
