The first day of the 53rd Macau Suncity Group GP, which consists of the free practice session and the first qualification on the mythical Guia route, is now complete, with favourable weather conditions and the brightness of the 27 riders on the track. for another annual edition of the mythical proof.
André Pires rode comfortably on the Macanese track in search of the best hit on his Yamaha R1, signing the 21st time in free practice. In the first qualifying session, the Portuguese rider was compromised due to a technical failure in his motorcycle, limiting his time on the track and sacrificing a better result.
After spending most of the time in the qualifying session in his box, it was finally discovered the source of the problem that persisted in not revealing himself, leaving little time for André to have a good time, which did not deprive the driver of getting to drop a second to your best morning record, in the shortest time available to the chess flag.
At the end of the first day of the event in Macau, Pires confirmed that everything had been done to find out the source of the problem, a solution that was soon to appear, leaving redoubled tasks for the Beauty Machines Racing Team technicians, who are now working on the powerful R1 for the best performance in the final qualifying session.
The 24th position at the end of Macau’s first day of the qualifying session does not reflect the full potential of the Portuguese rider, who promises to strike at the last chance to get a good place on the starting grid for the 12 lap race. , scheduled for Saturday. Peter Hickman would be the fastest of the day signing the fastest time at the end of the session, putting him on provisional pole.
André Pires # 14
“The free practice session went quite well, we tested a few tunings and tried different settings to come up with a solution that would allow us to ride comfortably. The track in the morning was very dirty, we walked very early – we were the first to get on track – and didn’t give much confidence to speed up.
After making some changes we went to the first timed workout. It was going well but unfortunately, we suffered an electronic malfunction which did not allow us to walk fast. I went in several times and left the pits to try to find out the source of the problem until when the fault was detected, there was little time left to make a good lap.
I managed to make two laps and improved a second from my best record in the morning and now the team is working on the bike. Tomorrow we hope that everything is settled, so we can start the last qualifying session in a positive way. We are confident that we will improve and I am sure we will regain some positions that will be valuable for the race. ”
