At the beginning of 2022, after returning from Denmark, where at one point she decided to live, after getting pregnant and overcoming the isolation period, after returning to Portugal, to live in Funchal, after so much, Emmy Curl decided that it was time to look at the artistic journey that began in 2007 and gathered in 15 Years a set of pieces that he believes define this chapter.
And so there are recreations of themes from his two albums – ‘Volto na Primavera‘ comes from ‘Nadia‘ (2015), ‘Devesas‘ and ‘Aliados‘ belong, of course, to the ‘Oporto‘ (2020) lineup – but also from the EPs that were released: ‘Clarity‘ was originally included in ‘Origins‘ (2012).
Here you can also find a fantastic version of ‘Maio Maduro Maio’, a theme that refers to a period when he lived in Aveiro: all his songs are, in fact, entries in a diary that he continues to write. ‘15 Years‘ will be edited on CD and vinyl and, explains the artist, “will carry with it images and visual creations of my own in addition to my portraits, some self-portraits, in chronological order since then”. A work as personal as it is revealing, therefore.
“Meanwhile”, reveals the Emmy, “I am composing an album, a declared love for my land – Trás-os-Montes – where I explore the traditional sounds and songs of the mountains. It’s a work that I see as a contributor to my base of influence with all the lessons I’ve gathered during these last 15 years. Being a mother also freed me from a lot of stigmas and insecurities, inspiring me to create much freer from judgment, it is a huge enthusiasm and pleasure to be able to sing about my roots with such a thirst for freedom”, she admits.
