The second single, “Music On The Radio”, is now available on digital platforms.
For eight years, Empyreans waited patiently for word from the visionary duo of Emperor Steele and Lord Littlemore as they traversed the world on their sonic pilgrimage… that wait now ends with the new album Ask That God, due out on Friday, July 26.
In a kaleidoscopic universe where reality merges perfectly with fantasy, the fourth era of Empire of the Sun reveals itself as a holistic musical adventure where imagination and reality intertwine and the surreal reigns supreme. “It was a journey unlike any other Empire Of The Sun has undertaken. We are adventurous when it comes to exploring, both ourselves and the outside world,” says Littlemore. “This work represents the biggest shift in consciousness our world has ever seen and this is reflected in the music.”
“Ask That God is an album we sought out and were blessed with. We are nothing more than conduits, accumulating experience and discovering what Empire should find,” explains Steele.
The first single, “Changes”, heralded the new era as a time to reflect on what was happening to the band itself – a second coming, the new era and a sense of rebirth. The idea goes to the heart of the Empire’s purpose, to nurture and amplify happiness and beauty through precisely crafted manifestations of sound and vision.
All of this is supported by the band’s infectious ability to build musical worlds that no one wants to leave, as demonstrated through the hypnotic disco groove of the addictive second single “Music On The Radio”. “For me, this song is like a teenager rebelling against his imaginary emotions. It is written in the unique way in which Lord Littlemore can bring words to life. The bass envelops the listener in a kind of hypnotic groove and you are left powerless by its charms,” says Steele.
Emperor Steele and Lord Littlemore continue their musical journey as kingdom builders, not shying away from their indelible talent for creating music with an unmistakable visual aesthetic and narrative.
In the second video, filmmaker Michael Maxxis takes us on a visual journey with the Emperor and Lord jumping between portals until they reach a parallel universe, where a surreal pool party takes place. With its bold neon feel and outlandish cast of characters, the video puts the song front and centre, capitalizing on its infectious, hypnotic pulse.
Empire of the Sun left an indelible mark on the world music scene, boasting a remarkable career, having sold more than 5.5 million albums worldwide and accumulating 7.6 billion streams. The band’s three celebrated albums have enjoyed global, multi-generational success, producing iconic anthems including “Walking On A Dream”, “We Are The People”, “Alive” and “High And Low”. Enjoying huge success in the US, Canada, UK, Europe and Australia, as well as eight ARIA Awards and two APRA Awards, the band continues to solidify their status as musical pioneers.
