Joe Mountain, founder of SandyBlue and experienced marathon runner and John Seabrook, of the BJs Oceanside restaurant decided to combine his passion for running with a solidary cause, through a 42km marathon in order to support Refood Almancil, an institution with the purpose of collecting food not served by restaurants or pastry shops and providing it to people in need.

The event that took place last week, beginning and ending at the BJs Oceanside restaurant, went through Quinta do Lago, Vale do Lobo and the estuary of Ria Formosa.

At a time when many families have been affected by the pandemic crisis, the two businessmen decided to roll up their sleeves to help those most in need. Thus came the idea of running a marathon and raising money for Refood Almancil.

The duo was very happy to have successfully completed the challenge, thanking those who contributed to this cause: “Thanks to the incredible support of all, we managed to raise more than €13,000 for Refood in Almancil. This is one of the biggest donations that the institution has ever received and will help hundreds of people who are living in very difficult times“, they stated.
