Ena Pá 2000 takes the stage at Capitólio
It is already on the next day, October 24, that Ena Pá 2000 returns to the stage. It will be at Capitólio, at 9:30 PM
Ena Pá 2000 has undoubtedly marked Portuguese music, especially their first albums released in the 90s, perhaps due to their humour and unique stage presence.
With performances at academic parties, they became a national phenomenon, even without exposure to mainstream media. Nearly forty years after their debut album, they are still around, with more concerts and fewer albums, but alive and present.
In 2025, the band will celebrate 40 years of career and will start a series of concerts presenting a show that reviews all their biggest hits. A memorable show is expected on October 24 at Capitólio, in Lisbon, not to be missed. Tickets are on sale at the usual places.
Who are Ena Pá 2000
Hailing from Foz do Arelho, the five members of Modess & Aderentes started rehearsing in a garage and playing in the local discotheques. Then they decided to move to Lisbon in search of luck. It is in Lisbon that they meet what would become the sixth member of the group. The group decides to change their name to Ena Pá 2000. The six members were Lello Vilarinho (vocals, cello, trumpet, and mandolin), Pão Diospiro (synth guitar), Francis Ferrugem (percussion), Pepito Durex (saxophone, viola, French horn), Manuel Anão (double bass), and Joselito Desirato (drums).
They entered the 4th Modern Music Contest of Rock Rendez-Vouz but ended up dropping out after signing a contract with CBS. In 1987, their first single was released with the songs “Telephone Call” and “Pão, Amor e Totobola.” The music was by the group and the lyrics were by Armindo Cerejeira, a popular poet from their hometown.
The shows organized by Modess Aderentes were unforgettable. In the newspaper Blitz, they were presented as a guy with a funnel on his head, singing songs like “Sexo na Banheira” or “Mulheres Boas,” with the Valkyries moving a lot and singing little. The debut album was recorded in March 1989 at Tchá Tchá Tchá studios, produced by the group itself and Moz Carrapa. The mixes would be made the following year. After rejections from Polygram and EMI, the album would only be released at the end of 1991, through El Tatu.
In December 1990, they debuted on the Johnny Guitar stage. In 1992, “Enapália 2000” was released, which is a “revised and expanded” transfer to CD of the group’s first album. The album “És Muita Linda” was released in November 1994. The album featured appearances by Vitorino and Janita Salomé (“Rap Alentejano”), Gimba, João Paulo Feliciano, and Bernardo Sassetti. They released the single “Doces Penetrações” in 1996. The following year, the album “Opus Gay” was released with a cover inspired by the classics from Deutsche Gramophone. In 1999, the CD “2001 – Odisseia No Chaço” was released.
In March 2004, the album “A Luta Continua!” was launched. The album featured songs like “Mulher do Norte,” the old favourite “Rosário,” “Pudim,” and “Tourada.” The legendary guitarist Filipe Mendes appeared as a special guest since the previous guitarist had gone to China. In April 2004, they performed at the Serralves Foundation during the “6=0 Homeosthetic – 48th Kavod Party” event, which retrospective the Homeosthetics for two days.
On this occasion, the book “Só Desisto se For Eleito” by Manuel João Vieira was also released. In 2005, a DVD was released featuring the concert from November 30, 2004, held at Paradise Garage, celebrating 20 years of the group’s existence. 2011 was the year of the release of the band’s last album: the “Álbum Bronco.” In 2025, the band will celebrate 40 years of career and is preparing to announce a series of concerts as part of a tour presenting a show that revisits all their greatest hits.
