It was on Valentine’s Day that the bands Epica and Apocalyptica brought their ‘symphonic metal music’ to Portugal, as part of ‘The Epic Apocalypse Tour 2023’.
This concert was rescheduled a few times due to COVID-19 restrictions, but the third time it was for good.
Warming up the atmosphere for the two world-renowned bands was Wheel, which served as an appetizer for what came next.
Epica is a Dutch symphonic metal band formed in 2002 in the city of Reuver, Limburg, and is also one of the most appreciated by Portuguese fans of the genre. This tour served to reunite with the Portuguese public and to present the songs from his 8th album ‘Omega‘, but also covered his entire discography, namely the album ‘The Quantum Enigma’.
To start we had the songs ‘Abyss of Time – Countdown to Singularity’, ‘The Essence of Silence’, ‘Victims of Contingency’, and ‘Unleashed’. The theme ‘Rivers’ was one of the most appreciated, as were ‘Fools of Damnation’ and ‘Cry for the Moon’ which allowed for a whole interaction with the public. They were excellent.
Apocalyptica is a Finnish symphonic metal band from Helsinki, formed in 1993. The band consists of classically trained cellists Eicca Toppinen, Paavo Lötjönen, and Perttu Kivilaakso, and drummer Mikko Sir.
Apocalyptica came to present the songs from their most recent album ‘Cell-0’, but also all the other songs, between covers and originals for which they are known.
Opening ‘Ashes Of The Modern World’, ‘Grace’, ‘I’m Not Jesus’. We heard ‘Not Strong Enough’, ‘Shadowmaker’, ‘I Don´t Care’, ‘Nothing Else Matters’, ‘Seek & Destroy’ were some of the most appreciated songs by the public, and to close a completely demonic night ‘In Hall Of The Mountain King’.
