Franco Sport teams in good shape in the 8th stage of the Dakar 2025

For the second consecutive time, the duo Mário Franco/Rui Franco set the 12th best time in a stage of the Dakar 2025 – 10th among the competitors in the World Rally-Raid Championship – in the category reserved for the SSV prototypes of the Challenger category.

Another positive day for the Franco Sport drivers, as well as their teammates, Pedro Gonçalves/Hugo Magalhães, who finished in 16th place. The best result in both of their debuts was in Dakar.

“It went very well, only four days left!” The first words of Mário Franco when asked to take stock of the eighth stage of the Dakar 2025. “It was a very positive day. In the dunes, we had a fun fight with João Monteiro. In the last 140 kilometres we had to drive carefully, as due to the stone trails and a lot of dust, the brakes got hotter than they should have. The most important thing is that we overcame another challenge and with a good result, although, for me, that is not the most important thing.”

Cousins Mário and Rui Franco, driving an X-Raid YXZ 1000R, assisted by Franco Sport, repeated the result of the previous day: 12th best time – 10th among the competitors in the Rally-Raid World Championship – maintaining 18th position in the reserved classification. to the SSV prototypes of the Challenger category.

The teammates, the duo Pedro Gonçalves/Hugo Magalhães, achieved the 16th-best time of the stage, among the teams registered in the Challenger category. The best result in both teams’ debuts at the Dakar and achieved on the day they returned to the race, after failing to reach the final control of Saturday’s stage. “Today was a calm day, with a perfect pace and perfect navigation by Hugo. Interestingly, I have been feeling more comfortable on the sand and the important thing now is to continue accumulating experience. But we are looking forward to Thursday’s Empty Quarter,” admits Pedro Gonçalves.

Tomorrow’s stage

With 589 timed kilometres, 357 of which are timed, the ninth stage, between Riyadh and Haradh, will take the caravan to the south of Saudi Arabia, on predominantly fast tracks. A day for speed lovers.
