School of Arts organizes international week to Think and Celebrate the Party

From the 3rd to the 8th of July, international artists and filmmakers in the city of Porto

Between the 3rd and 8th of July, the city of Porto will host another edition of the free public program of the Porto Summer School on Art & Cinema, organized by the School of Arts and the Center for Research in Science and Technology of the Arts (CITAR) from the Catholic University of Portugal in Porto.

Confirmed are the presences of Brazilian singer Tim Bernardes, filmmaker Jazmín Lopez, artists Maria de Brugerolle, Bárbara Wagner & Benjamin de Burca, Carla Filipe, musicians, and DJs Abraxas and Rare Romance; and the performers Piny, Leo Soulflow, André Cabral, Baronesa and Teatro Praga. The theme of this issue is “Party Studies” which presents parties as a concept of change through history.

“For a week we will hold cinema sessions, musical moments, and performances by artists and directors of international importance,” says Nuno Crespo, director of the School of Arts of the Catholic University of Portugal. This program takes place in several cultural spaces in the city of Porto: Escola das Artes, Serralves, Passos Manuel, and Cinema Batalha.

The Porto Summer School on Art & Cinema starts the program open to the public on July 3rd, at 9 pm, in the Auditorium Ilídio Pinho, at the Escola das Artes of the Catholic University in Porto, with a conference performance by the singer Tim Bernardes, whose album “ Restart” was nominated for the 2018 Latin Grammy and ranked second among The Best Albums of 2017 by Rolling Stone magazine. The following day, July 4th, at 9:30 pm, at Batalha Centro de Cinema, filmmaker Jazmín Lopez, with films selected for the Venice Film Festival, will be present for the screening of her film “Si yo fuera el invierno mismo” followed by a debate. The following day, July 5th, at 7.30 pm, in the Auditorium of the Serralves Museum, the duo Bárbara Wagner and Benjamin de Burca, known for their films and video installations in dialogue with other artists, will also be present. questions and answers. On the 6th of July, at 10 pm, Passos Manuel will be the stage for Carla Filipe to present “I Don’t like parties never and Forever”, with performances by Abraxas (Live Act) and the Rare Romance DJ. For the 7th of July, the presence of Piny, known for her collaborations with different artists in different environments, such as Leo Soulflow, André Cabral, and Baronesa, is confirmed, at 9 pm, at the Ilídio Pinho Auditorium. The 8th of July is the last day of the Porto Summer School on Art & Cinema with “Queermess” from Teatro Praga, in a cultural afternoon that will start at 4 pm at the Escola das Artes of Universidade Católica Portuguesa.

Daniel Ribas, director of CITAR, clarifies “This year’s theme, Party Studies, aims to study and practice PARTY throughout the week, thinking of it as a concept of change to cultivate otherness in today’s world,” adding “ the party is intertwined with the senses, community, performance, and sharing.”

Over 6 days, the Escola das Artes of the Catholic University in Porto will provide a cultural and immersive experience within the concept of Festa, aimed at all culture lovers in the city of Porto.
