Porto School recreates United Nations organization

February 7th to 9th

250 students will be part of the 2024 initiative, which begins this Wednesday.

CLIP – Oporto International School is, once again, hosting, from the 7th to the 9th of February, the 17th edition of OPOMUN – Oporto Model United Nations.

This initiative, which will bring together 250 students from primary and secondary schools, Portuguese and foreign, in a recreation of the United Nations (UN), promotes the debate on the divisive themes of current world politics.

The initiative will be divided between the college’s facilities and those of the Hotel HF Ipanema Porto, where students, distributed by committees, will represent delegates from different countries, working as a team and finding answers to different current issues, defending each the interests of the nation they represent, not forgetting the common good of all member states.

“At a time when diplomacy appears to be in a highly fragile state, being able to bring together 250 young people who believe that dialogue can still be the key to a safer and more united world, brings me hope for the future”, advances Nuno Carvalho, student 12th year at CLIP and Secretary General of OPOMUN 2024.

On the first day of the conference, the Opening Ceremony will be attended by Diana Soller, a renowned political commentator who will bring her vast knowledge to the congressmen and who will also share the brilliant journey outlined to date.

“In addition to the unavoidable issues of today, we bring topics such as Artificial Intelligence, Sustainable Mobility and Mental Health to the debate. We want to talk about the issues that concern us and that will change our future”, as stated by Maria Carolina Vivas, a 12th-year student at CLIP and Deputy Secretary General of OPOMUN 2024.

The first day of this simulation will take place at the CLIP facilities, this Wednesday, from 11:15 am to 6 pm, moving to the Hotel HF Ipanema Porto on the following days, between 8:30 am and 6 pm, on the 8th, and 8:30 am and 5:30 pm, on the 9th.
