Lunar New Year begins on January 29th

At the Museu do Oriente, the Lunar New Year is welcomed with a program of activities for the whole family, from January 25th to February 8th. Come celebrate the beginning of a new cycle, under the sign of the Snake! Wednesday, January 29, entry to the Museu do Oriente is free.

Family Party

From January 25th to February 8th, the Museu do Oriente invites you to celebrate the Lunar New Year, with visits and workshops dedicated to the practices and customs typical of this great celebration. Aimed at children and families, the workshops on 25 January and 2 February explore the animals of the Chinese zodiac, the rhythms and colours of good luck and even the Japanese method of warding off bad luck… with beans!

Tradition and Celebration

From domestic altars to offerings in temples, from gastronomy to auspicious objects, the themed visits on January 29th and 31st will showcase the traditions of the Lunar New Year. The Year of the Snake workshop | Chinese Ink and Chinese Brush invites you to represent this iconic animal through traditional painting, illustration and calligraphy. On February 7th and 8th, the workshops The Chinese Zodiac and Bazi for 2025 and Feng Shui for 2025 draw on the ancient teachings of Chinese astrology and Taoist philosophy to reveal the energies of the Wood Snake, the animal and element that governs 2025. and how to take advantage of them.

And because there is no party without music, on Friday, January 31st, at 6 pm, don’t miss the musical presentation of ehru, a traditional Chinese instrument, by the Associação Pensamento Oriental.
