Carlos Alberto Moniz, Luísa Sobral, and Jorge Salgueiro will elect the composicion of this year’s Popular Marches.
The «Grande Marcha de Lisboa 2023» contest ends on the 22nd. Two weeks before the deadline for submitting applications for this joint initiative by the Lisbon City Council and EGEAC – Company for the Management of Equipment and Cultural Animation, the jury has already been chosen.
For this year’s edition of the contest, three recognized figures in the Portuguese musical and artistic panorama were invited: the conductor, musician, and composer Carlos Alberto Moniz (on behalf of the Portuguese Society of Authors), the singer-songwriter Luísa Sobral and the composer and artistic director Jorge Salgueiro, who will, respectively, review the music, the review of the lyrics and the review in general.
The members of the jury will have the task of choosing this year’s winning composition (music and lyrics), which, in addition to «Lisbon», a mandatory theme, must also be inspired by Parque Mayer – an iconic space, born in 1922, and for decades the most important center of entertainment and culture in the city, having completed its 100th-anniversary last year.
The Great March 2023 will be presented and interpreted by all participants of the Popular Marches of Lisbon, within the framework of the city’s Festivities in the Avenida da Liberdade parade, on the night of Santo António, as well as in the previous exhibitions.
Open to everyone, individually or collectively, residing in Portugal and of legal age, this contest annually distinguishes the literary and musical originality of the authors of the winning composition with a prize worth €5,500 (five thousand five hundred euros).
Proposals must be sent, anonymously, by registered mail with acknowledgment of receipt, to the headquarters of EGEAC, by the next 22nd.
