It’s called “Grandes Hits do Pop” and marks the debut of Orquestra POP Portuguesa. An excellent option to offer this Christmas, tickets cost between 20 and 35 euros.
The show is scheduled for 2023 in two of the most iconic venues in the Lisbon area – Casino Estoril (13th) and Altice Arena (14th).
Conducted by Maestro Ulf Wadenbrandt, a specialist in the mix between light and classic, Orquestra POP Portuguesa makes its debut in early 2023 with the presentation of “Grandes Hits do Pop”. The project, which brings together 42 musicians on stage, highly motivated and very expectant of the audience’s reaction, has as its main voices Catarina Clau and Ricardo Soler. Together, they interpret themes from bands and authors as diverse as Queen, The Beatles, Lady Gaga, or Xutos & Pontapés, among others, reviewing the most iconic themes of pop music. Organized by DHArtes Produções, the performance is scheduled for the 13th and 14th of January at the Salão Preto e Prata at Casino Estoril and at Sala Tejo at the Altice Arena.

Consisting of 42 musicians with superior musical training and quality, the Orquestra POP Portuguesa was born from the combination of high performance with national and international references in the interpretation of the best “light music”. From the past to the present, from classical to more modern music, the project promises a performance that is accessible to everyone. As? Abba, Coldplay, and Tina Turner like you’ve never heard.
The objective is to provide moments of musical enjoyment and high-quality entertainment through the interpretation of these and other themes by the hand of this orchestra. For this, the organization brought together artists who specialized in different musical genres.
“This project is the realization of a dream. Its main objective is to bring everyone closer to music, especially to an orchestra, and to demystify the idea so often associated that an orchestra plays ‘only’ classical music, or classical music”, begins by explaining Inês Santos, founder of DHArtes Produções and one of those responsible for organizing “Grandes Hits do Pop”.
“We want people to realize that the instruments that are used to play more classical repertoire are the same ones that play the songs we hear on the radio. We want the public to understand the importance of all the professionals who are on stage and not just those who usually stand out”.
“Being the son of a professional violinist, I learned from an early age that Art in general, and Music, in particular, must be served by us, since they do not exist at all for us to use them. I also learned that, if on the one hand, the tastes of the public are, and thankfully, eclectic, they can also be captivated if they are shown, without complexes and taboos, various musical genres and even, why not?, mixtures between these”, he adds. João Pires, the other founder of DHArtes Produções and the artistic director of OPP – Orquestra POP Portuguesa.
Recognized for the creativity and originality of his projects, it will be up to the Swede Ulf Wadenbrandt to conduct the debut of Orquestra Pop Portuguesa. It stands out for the richness of the sounds of its performances, for the concerts and recordings in the area of pop and symphonic rock, as well as for the intersection of these styles with classical music. With a vast curriculum, which includes participation in the final of the RTP musical program “Operação Triunfo”, Ricardo Soler has given voice to several themes for soundtracks of television series and soap operas, he has already represented our country in some European festivals, among them the Festival RTP da Canção, and was part of the casts of multiple musicals. Catarina Clau also has two brilliant participations in the RTP da Canção Festival, as well as in entertainment programs and talent shows such as The Voice Portugal. Her curriculum brings together dance, singing, and acting, experiences in which she has worked with references such as Filipe La Féria, Henrique and Nuno Feist, and Miguel Thiré. Conductor and lead singers will soon take the stage with 39 other artists to bring to life the themes of bands and singers as different as Queen, The Beatles, Lady Gaga, Xutos & Pontapés, Abba, Coldplay, or Tina Turner, among others.
