The jury considered it to be “a novel that, starting from the innovative business and social action of Francisco Grandella, builds a family and personal story of great human reach. The transition period from the 19th century to the 20th century until the First World War is signaled by situations of poverty that will determine the evolution of the protagonist”.
The Jury, in addition to Guilherme D`Oliveira Martins, who presides, representing the CNC – Centro Nacional de Cultura, also includes José Manuel Mendes, for the Portuguese Association of Writers, Manuel Frias Martins, for the Portuguese Association of Literary Critics, Maria Carlos Gil Loureiro, for the Directorate-General for Books, Archives and Libraries, Ana Paula Laborinho, Liberto Cruz and José Carlos de Vasconcelos, individually invited, and also Dinis de Abreu, representing Estoril Sol.
