- About a hundred participants responded to this year’s challenge ‘Challenging Data for Sustainable Cities’, launched by LTPlabs, Porto Business School and NOS.
- The five finalist teams present their ideas to a jury on the 20th of November, at the Cruise Terminal of Porto de Leixões.
Last weekend (November 12th to 14th) the first phase of the Eurekathon 2021 competition took place. The marathon of ideas had around 100 participants who, against the clock, presented data-based solutions to create smarter and sustainable.
The first phase of the competition took place in a virtual format and had participants from various parts of the country, especially Porto and Lisbon, but also from other countries such as Brazil, the USA, Italy or Bulgaria. The most predominant academic and professional backgrounds were Computer Science, with participants from economics and computer engineering or even aerospace. In terms of age, young people under 25 years of age stood out (46%).
In addition to the competition, and setting the tone and inspiration for the event, participants had exclusive access to a set of round tables and talks related to the three aspects of the challenge – micromobility, public transport and pedestrian mobility. In addition to technological support, guaranteed by Google Cloud, the initiative’s strategic partner, each team had two mentors for guidance and support in responding to the challenge. In total, supporting and guiding the teams, the organization had the participation of more than 20 mentors.
The five finalist teams, Blind Data, Trust, Boosted Pandas, Green@CES and Urban_Geeks, will now have the opportunity to pitch their ideas and compete for a podium place in the final on November 20th, which takes place at the Terminal of Cruises from Porto de Leixões and which will also be broadcast live stream on the competition’s YouTube channel.
