Europe Day

Europe Day, celebrated in Sibiu, Romania by the Heads of State and Government of the European Union, to mark the “Schuman Declaration”, considered one of the inspirations of the European project, at an informal summit on the Future of Europe.

Europe Day serves to celebrate the proposal of Robert Schuman, former French Foreign Minister, who, five years after the end of World War II, on May 9, 1950, suggested to the then Federal Republic of Germany, and to other countries , the creation of the European Coal and Steel Community, which would be the first of a number of supranational European institutions to have originated in the European Union.

They are planned for celebrations at the University Institute of Lisbon, with the participation of Mário Centeno and Márcio Centeno and MEPs Pedro Marques from PS, Paulo Rangel from PSD, João Ferreira from CDU, Nuno Melo from CDS-PP, Marisa Matias do BE and Marinho Pinto PDR.

In Porto, Braga, Guarda, Oeiras, Sintra, Évora, Funchal in Madeira, Ponta Delgada and Vila do Porto in the Azores will also be marked the Day of Europe.
