European Movie Marathon shows 11 films in Odemira

Eleven films by European filmmakers selected from the best produced since the 1920s will be screened at a European Film Marathon from Saturday until October 1 in the village of Odemira.

The marathon, which will take place at the Camacho Costa Cineteatro, is promoted by the Municipality of Odemira, Beja district, under the initiative ‘Cultural September’ and this year’s European Heritage Days, dedicated to the theme ‘Arts, heritage and leisure’.

According to the municipality, during the marathon, will be screened “eleven films of European directors, in a selection between the best cinema produced since the 1920s” and until this year.

The marathon will start on Saturday at 15:00 with the screening of the film ‘The Andalusian Dog’ (1929), directed and written in partnership by Spanish director Luís Buñuel and Spanish painter Salvador Dali.

Also on Saturday are the screenings of British Alfred Hitchcock’s ‘The 39 Steps’ (1935) at 15.30, Italian Roberto Rosselini’s ‘Rome, Open City’ (5:45 pm) and ‘Hiroshima’ , my love ‘(1959), by the French Alain Resnais, at 9:30 pm.

On Sunday will be shown the films’ The Hunted ‘(1961) by French-Swiss Jean-Luc Godart at 15.00,’ Amarcord ‘(1973), by Italian Federico Fellini at 16:40,’ The Wings of Desire (1987), from German Wim Wenders at 1900, and ‘All About My Mother’ (1999), from Spanish Pedro Almodôvar at 9:30 pm.

The films ‘The Pianist’ (2003), by Polish Roman Polanski, and ‘On the Milky Way’ (2016), by Serbian Emir Kusturica, will be screened on Monday at 18h00 and 2130, respectively.

The marathon will end on October 1, International Music Day, with the screening, scheduled for 21:30, of the recent film ‘Variations’ (2019), by Portuguese director João Maia and dedicated to António Variações, “iconic music artist”. whose brilliant career was interrupted by his death in 1984 “.

With the marathon ends this year’s edition of the ‘Cultural September’ initiative, which the Chamber of Odemira promoted this month with various offers to promote the county’s culture and heritage and provide the population with different cultural manifestations.
