“Demolition Derby”, the long-awaited fourth studio recording of Minta & The Brook Trout arrives in the year that marks 15 years since the beginning of the project that would give rise to the band founded by Francisca Cortesão. “Matador”, the first of the songs to be written for the album, in the distant year of 2018, is the breakthrough single where many of the subjects that run through the entire album are present: artificial landscapes, the relationship with the passage of time, self-illusions and disappointments and, finally, an attempt to make peace with a certain inner turmoil.
Minta’s story began in 2006 – when everything was happening on MySpace – as a vehicle for home recordings of Francisca Cortesão’s songs. It was in 2009 that the name Minta & The Brook Trout emerged, while the solo project was transformed into a band, on which, since then, the succinct songs of Francisca Cortesão and the minimal arrangements of Mariana Ricardo have been based. Around this duo, in recordings and concerts, has revolved a cast of extremely talented musicians, as part of Brook Trout or as special guests. In the most varied versions, the band performs in all kinds of spaces, from the smallest bars and lounges in Portugal and the USA to festivals such as NOS Alive or Super Bock Super Rock.
