Events drop 53% between March and April compared to 2019

The top 3 of cancellations are led by weddings (-45%), followed by birthday parties (-17.5%) and corporate events (-10%).

The events market in Portugal fell 53% between March and April this year compared to the same period last year, which shows that, with the pandemic, the Portuguese are not for parties, reveals Fixando – the biggest national platform for the hiring of local services, in a survey carried out with 20 thousand people, between companies that organize events and customers, between the 1st and the 23rd of May.

The most important reasons for this registration were essentially two: the government-imposed ban on events in the State of Emergency (62%) and the precautionary cancellation on the side of the organizers (26%).

Approximately 43% of respondents revealed that they had only invested € 250 in canceled events, while 16.7% had already invested more than € 10,000, of which, of the canceled events, only 18% managed to get their money back.

Of the services that were already hired and that were canceled, the highlights are the event venues (43%), the catering (30%) and the photography service (22%).

On the side of professionals working in the events area, 77% revealed that more than 80% of their jobs were also canceled, representing a drop of more than 80% in their income, with the average monthly billing of a worker in the sector being € 500 euros in the period under review, against € 1,000 and € 1,500 that were registered in 2019.
