Exhibition of posters in Santiago de Compostela evokes 25 April

The inauguration of the exhibition “The 25 April posters” on Thursday in Santiago de Compostela is one of the events of the program that will mark the 45th anniversary of the Carnation Revolution until the 29th in the capital of Galicia.

It is an exhibition composed of 20 posters, one of them by a Galician artist. Of the others, the majority are committees that organize the celebrations, but we have some signed by the authors, such as Alexandre Kroner, João Abel Manta and Irene Ribeiro,” Olido Carnero, from the nucleus of the José Afonso Association in Galicia (AJA-Galicia).

He explained that “one of the oldest posters dates back to 1975, most of which are contemporary, from the years 2000 to the present.

The evolution of the message they want to convey is noteworthy,” said Otilo Carnero, “and the more recent ones reflect a more commemorative spirit of the day.

Besides the political and social message, “the collection also allows us to know the artistic evolution and the techniques used in the posters, a reflection of the plastic tendencies, above all with the digital drawing“.

The exhibition, held in collaboration with the Granell Foundation, will be inaugurated on Thursday, at 5:00 p.m., in a room located in the Bendaña palace, in the Praça do Toural, where José Afonso performed in 1973, performing songs of political intervention for an audience composed of students from Santiago de Compostela.

The exhibition, curated by art historian Alba Silgo, will be on display until May 05.

The commemorative program of 25 April in Galicia, promoted for the second time by AJA Galicia, created in 2018, presenting books, concerts, cinema and graphic art.

There is a very strong link between the Galicians and the 25th of April and Zeca Afonso. All the initiatives we have promoted with this theme have a lot of repercussions, especially because Zeca Afonso is well known and appreciated in Galicia. even lived here, “explained Otilo Carnero.

The José Afonso Association was born in Setúbal in 1987, only a few months after the death of Zeca Afonso. In January 2018, a civic movement decided to create AJA Galicia, “an autonomous association, but linked directly to the original AJA, with the aim of spreading Zeca Afonso’s values in Galicia, and promoting, in the south of Minho, social reality and cultural life of Spain “.

The program of the AJA of Galicia includes, on Friday, at 5:00 pm, in collaboration with the association Gentalha do Pichel, the initiative “Zeca Afonso for children“.

This is the presentation of a book edited by the schools Semente, by its responsible, Bruno Vilela, and the musical accountant show “The ant on the road“, Rilo & Penadique.

Still on Friday, but starting at 8:00 pm, a documentary by João Pires about the experience of Zeca Afonso in Setúbal, with testimonials from friends and alumni, is shown.

Starting at 9.30 pm, the program includes a dinner party and a concert by the band Os Meninos.

On the 29th, at 7:30 p.m., at the Couceiro bookstore in Santiago de Compostela, the book “José Afonso ao Vivo” will be presented. It will bring together two concerts by José Afonso, recorded in 1968 in Coimbra and in 1980 in Carreço, Viana do Castelo, vinyl and a book by journalist Adelino Gomes.

The vinyl includes the concert realized in May of 1968, in the Theater Avenue, in Coimbra, and the book contextualizes the two concerts.

The presentation of this edition is accompanied by a meeting with the publisher José Moças, who publishes the work.
