Exports in the agro-food sector rose 6% in the first half
Exports in the agro-food sector rose 6% in the first half, compared to the same period last year, told the Secretary of State for Agriculture and Food, who pointed out that growth has been between 6% and 7% annually.
“Exports have grown steadily in recent years, 6% / 7% a year. In the first half of this year, we are already growing 6% in relation to the homologous period of 2017. In 2017, we registered an export value of 6.6 million euros, which really shows the growing interest of our companies in the international markets, “said Luís Medeiros Vieira, after the visit to the Portuguese stand at SIAL Paris, fair of the agri-food sector.
According to the official, “the presence of Portuguese companies in international fairs is extremely important” as a way of projecting the dynamism of the sector.
Despite not going further, the Secretary of State for Agriculture and Food said the Government is working to open 53 new international markets.
“These are ‘dossiers’ difficult to complete,” he said.
After visiting the fair, the minister assured that Portuguese businessmen are presenting “new products” and with innovation, both at the level of image and the level of flavours worked, stressing that companies “are attentive to market trends.”
Regarding the impact of the Portuguese presence at international fairs, Luís Medeiros Vieira noted that all businessmen were “satisfied” and growing, despite some difficulties.
About 70 Portuguese companies, through PortugalFoods, are present at SIAL Paris, which began today and runs until Thursday.
The Portuguese delegation has companies such as Novarroz, Amendouro, Fresbeira, Ramirez, Paladin and Mirazeite.
Formed in 2008, PortugalFoods is an association made up of companies, entities of the scientific and technological system and national and regional entities that represent the agri-food sector.
