Exhibition “Abraço aos Meus Mares” at the Casino Lisboa

Recently inaugurated, the exhibition “Abraço aos Meus Mares” by Bruno Maurício, is one of the highlights of the cultural program of Casino Lisboa. With free admission, this individual painting exhibition brings together 11 works that can be visited in the Art Gallery.

“I felt the need to honour the people of the sea, those I met and others who have already left. This collection I named “Embrace My Seas”. These paintings depict men and women from the world of fishing”.

“… At dawn, fishermen danced with the wind, casting nets like dreams. Among morning mists, ancestral stories emerged. Nights revealed fishermen gathered, telling tales under the complicit Moon and the sea. Under the salty blessing, they wrote stories on the invisible pages of the ocean, intertwining destinies with eternal tides…”.

Bruno Maurício
Born in 1975, in Lisbon, Bruno Maurício was raised in the village of Paço d’Arcos and always cultivated a deep connection and fascination for the sea, the beach and local traditions. The constant proximity to the sea has been an inspiring source, providing a unique working environment over the years, allowing the development of creativity, exploration and improvement of new techniques.

The notoriety gained through the gigantic-scale drawings in sand, in which he is a pioneer in Portugal, resulted in invitations from city councils to create several murals and the possibility of being part of the restricted group of MAD artists.

The paintings on canvas explore the striking trace of robust and laborious faces, revealing the marks of life intertwined in their faces’ grooves and expressions. For this reason, we opt for a palette of two colours: black and white.

The Art Gallery of Casino Lisboa hosts, until 29 December, the exhibition “Embrace to My Seas” by Bruno Maurício. Admission is free.
