DNA DIGITAL exhibition curated by Ephemeral Ethernal

Opening on 9 May at 6pm until 13 July at the Exhibition Space of the Águeda Arts Centre

Urban art has always been defined by its presence in public space – its essence lies in being accessible, visible and part of the collective experience.

With the advent of the digital age, it is expanding into new domains. This exhibition examines how digital tools and platforms are reshaping urban art, transforming the ways in which it is created, experienced, shared and acquired.

We invite you to enter, first of all, the world of social media as a new public space. Platforms such as Instagram and TikTok are the new agoras, where anyone can interact with art, express opinions and participate in public dialogue. Here, urban art finds a new visibility, not being restricted to physical spaces, it reaches a digital and global audience. We ask: in what ways do digital spaces reshape our experience with art? Do they provide a meaningful connection or just a superficial contact?

In the next section, you’ll discover how new tools are expanding creative possibilities. Urban artists are now combining traditional techniques with innovative technologies such as augmented reality, virtual reality, and animation. What was once an ephemeral image on a wall can now be animated, reimagined, and preserved. These technologies are breathing new life into urban art, allowing it to reach wider audiences, engage with them more interactively, and preserve the work after it has physically disappeared.

Finally, we explore the changing notion of ownership in urban art. With the emergence of NFTS and blockchain, digital art has entered a new phase: ownership is no longer confined to the physical world either. Artists can now create, sell, and preserve their works in digital form, allowing collectors to own pieces of urban art that previously only existed temporarily in public space. This shift is redefining what it means to own and experience art in the digital age. Synopsis

The DNA Digital Exhibition is curated by Ephemeral Ethernal (founded by artist Alexandre Farto aka Vhils) and explores how urban art has been transformed by the digital universe. Through immersive installations, augmented reality, virtual reality and blockchain technology, visitors are challenged to question what remains “public” and “authentic” in an era where walls extend beyond the streets and enter the digital realm.

With the participation of artists ±MaisMenos±, AKACORLEONE, Alexandre Farto aka Vhils, Halfstudio, Pedrita, PichiAvo, Tamara Alves, AddFuel, Wasted Rita and Kampus, DNA Digital looks at the evolution of urban art and aims to discover the possibilities of the future in an increasingly digital world.
