Exhibition “Watercolors for the Queen: The Düsseldorf album offered to Dona Estefânia”

The Ducal Palace of Vila Viçosa has the exhibition “Watercolors for the Queen: The Düsseldorf Album offered to Dona Estefânia” running until April.

The exhibition reveals a precious heritage of European History and Art. When visiting the exhibition, it is possible to discover the story behind the 22 watercolours, a wedding gift from D. Pedro V and Dona Estefânia, which immortalize some of the moments lived by Dona Estefânia’s family in Düsseldorf, an offer with great symbolic value for the Portuguese Royal House in the 19th century.

The set of watercolours is part of the collection of the Casa de Bragança Museum-Library and was recently restored by the Casa de Bragança Foundation.

The Casa de Bragança Foundation is dedicated to pursuing purposes of cultural and social interest, namely the preservation, enhancement and dissemination of its historical and cultural heritage and the protection of its natural heritage.
Established in 1933, in execution of the will of the last king of Portugal, D. Manuel II, the Foundation is part of the Casa de Bragança Museum-Library, where the collections and funds bequeathed by the founder are preserved and exhibited, which is located in the Palace Ducal and Castle of Vila Viçosa, as well as the historic buildings around Terreiro do Paço, namely the Church of Agostinhos, the Church and the Convent of Chagas. The Foundation also owns the Castles of Alter do Chão, Alvito, Ourém and Portel. The Foundation also develops activities of an educational and social solidarity nature, particularly within its geographical area of activity.
