“Morphosis” exhibition to see at MU.SA

The Municipality of Sintra presents at MU.SA – Museu das Artes de Sintra the exhibition “Morphosis” by Catarina Nunes and Vanessa Barragão, to be seen from June 29th to October 1st, with free admission.

Curated and written by Katherine Sirois, “Morphosis reveals the meeting between textile designer Vanessa Barragão and ceramist Catarina Nunes.

In this exhibition, the two artists combine their artistic processes in a harmonious and fluid way, between the different characteristics of textile art and sculptural ceramics.

“Morphosis” highlights how the two artists expand their respective fields of action by producing multimedia, composite and interactive installations, using original devices, video, sound recordings, and motion sensors. By working with ancestral techniques, traditionally associated with crafts and applied arts, they go beyond the boundaries of fiber art and ceramics, while at the same time bringing the two fields together in a revitalizing way.

Catarina Nunes works mainly in sculptural and installation ceramics, using a wide variety of materials such as earthenware, stoneware, porcelain, and blown glass, creating her marine-inspired world of organic forms and mysterious creatures.

As a textile designer, Vanessa Barragão is inspired by nature, which drives the processes, themes, shapes, and colors that she explores in her creations. With a special capacity for scale, the artist produces wall or suspended sculptural installations that oscillate between non-representational compositions and references to landscapes of surfaces and textures, to unidentified organisms.

MU.SA, which this year joined the Portuguese Contemporary Art Network, is one of the municipal museums in Sintra where admission is free for all visitors.
